Jack Ross 9mm Luger Ammunition Review

This is a review of Jack Ross 9mm Luger ammunition. Jack Ross 9mm ammunition uses new brass, with CCI primers, Alliant Power Pistol smokeless powder, and 115gr RN bullets from X-Treme Bullets in Carson City, NV.

This review uses the following equipment:

  • Jack Ross 9mm 115gr FMJ ammunition
  • Sellier & Bellot 9mm 115gr FMJ ammunition
  • Reloaded 9mm 115gr FMJ ammunition
  • Competition Electronics Pro Chrono Digital Chronograph
  • Beretta 92A1 Model J9A9F10 (4.9″ bbl)
  • Smith & Wesson M&P9 Pro Model 178010 (5″ bbl)

Using the 9mm Beretta 92A1, the following chronograph data was recorded:

  • Jack Ross: H=1162 L=1120 AVG=1145 ES=42 SD=16
  • Sellier & Bellot: H=1239 L=1206 AVG=1223 ES=33 SD=12
  • 6.1gr Reload: H=1218 L=1205 AVG=1213 ES=13 SD=5

Using the 9mm Smith & Wesson M&P9 Pro, the following chronograph data was recorded:

  • Jack Ross: H=1175 L=1137 AVG=1154 ES=38 SD=14
  • Sellier & Bellot: H=1243 L=1194 AVG=1210 ES=50 SD=19
  • 6.1gr Reload: H=1238 L=1196 AVG=1225 ES=42 SD=17

Using two different 9mm pistols, I was able to get a good reading for how well each ammunition worked. In general, longer barrels produce higher velocities. Although the difference between barrel lengths was small, the results support this rule.

In comparison, the Jack Ross 9mm 115gr FMJ ammunition uses a moderate powder charge to offering the shooter the least amount of recoil possible without sacrificing accuracy. Jack Ross offers 115gr locally-made bullets at this caliber, and our tests showed an average velocity of nearly 1150 fps.

I recommend Jack Ross 9mm 115gr FMJ ammunition for training and target practice, with range not more than 35 yards.
